Silver Creek Real Estate Group is a proud supporter of Groovin on the Green a free outdoor concert series sponsored by The Greater Cashiers Area Merchants Association. Silver Creek president and senior broker, Jochen Lucke serves on the Board of Directors for the GCAMA and wishes to extend a personal invitation to all residents and visitors of The Highlands-Cashiers Plateau. The first concert of the series was a great success, relates Lucke. We look forward to continuing to bring talented local artists to Cashiers Village Green, and drawing the community together to enjoy great music with family, friends and neighbors.

Groovin on the Green was launched on July 9 with classical piano performances by Judith Burganger and Leonid Treer. Upcoming performances will include classical guitarist, George Andrews and other local favorites. It will also be a special part of the First Annual Cashiers Leaf Festival, scheduled for October 9-11. The GCAMA is very excited to host this new event which they hope will draw thousands to the area to witness the changing of the leaves, shop and dine at area merchants, and take part in the celebration. Plans for the Leaf Festival include live music and dancing during that weeks Groovin on the Green, an Arts and Crafts Festival featuring the work of local artists and distinctive items from some of our merchants, as well as an exciting Tour of Homes showcasing some of our most exclusive mountain homes and communities.     Music lovers UNITE! Join your friends, neighbors and families on the Village Green in Cashiers for a day filled with song, fireworks, food and fun! The Festival will feature the unique musical stylings of ten bands on two stages throughout the day. This years feature bands/artists include: The Isaacs, Lizzy Long, Sierra Hull, Mountain Faith Music, Rye Holler Boys, The Heartland Band, High Windy Band, Tuckers Town, The Hims and Sweet Tater. The Rough Creek Cloggers will also be on hand to perform. The day kicks off at 11 a.m. and doesnt end until the last firework fades. Bring your dancing shoes, lawn chairs and picnic blankets.     Mountains in Bloom 2009 Garden Festival Highlands, NC July 7-11

    The Highlands-Cashiers Plateau is well known for its stunning natural beauty its far as the eye can see vistas, its larger than life waterfalls, its rolling sea of wildflowers lining the valley floor. In a show of celebration of natures beauty, the Highlands, NC community prepares to kick off its 11th Annual Mountains in Bloom Garden Festival. Nature lovers throughout the Southeast and beyond will soon descend upon the Plateau for a weekend they wont soon forget!

    The Festival kicks off with a series of lectures, the first of which Flower Remedies: Take Two Roses and Call Me In the Morning will be hosted at The Bascom and presented by Margie Shambaugh at 5:30 p.m. on July 7. Subsequent lectures will be held on July 9 and include the professional advice of famed interior designer, Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill and landscape designer/garden restorer, Chip Callaway. This exceptional afternoon hosted at The Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts Center is broken into two sessions (8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.), and includes a book signing and a proper English tea at Caf� Royal.

    The Flower Show held at Highlands Civic Center on July 10 and 11 showcases three divisions: Horticulture (garden flowers, container plants & native specimens), Artistic (floral arrangements, floral design interpretations of Bascom artwork, childrens floral arrangements) and NEW this year Photography (flowers of all kinds and Western North Carolina scenery). The theme of this years show is Mountain Moments and will include two special exhibits, The Art of Ikebana and Art Projects from The Bascoms Childrens Program. The Flower Show begins July 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and wraps up July 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fun doesnt have to end there! Also hosted at the Highlands Civic Center on July 10 and 11 in the Gymnasium is the much anticipated Home and Garden Shop. Featured for the first time, this exciting attraction is expected to be the highlight of the weekend. Come shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. among the vendors and artists presenting live plants, flowers and specialty items for the home and garden, including garden art, birdbaths, pottery, fountains, garden furniture and so much more.

    On July 10 and 11, The Garden Tour commences with a leisurely shuttle ride from The Highlands Civic Center. The Tour includes the majestic gardens and beautiful interiors of some of the homes in Highlands Falls Country Club, as well as the gardens of an English country estate and a 1800s historic home. Lunch will be provided at the Highlands Falls Clubhouse, overlooking the 17th hole and lake. The Festival also includes a Patrons Party on July 10 at 6:30 p.m. hosted by Paula and Barry Jones the owners of The Summerhouse at their lovely Frog Pond Farm. This extraordinary evening will include a meander through the gardens, cocktails by the lake, and the music of Jim Gibson and his strolling musicians as guests dine under a blanket of stars.
