Spring is FINALLY in the air up here in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The last bit of snow is melting away, the birds are singing in the trees, and the dogwoods are slowly but surely showing signs of new growth. Wont be long now before the rolling hills and valley floor are ablaze with color green leaves on the trees, white dogwood blossoms and a carpet of wildflowers as far as the eye can see. Its been a long and beautiful white winter, but we are ready for the return of warmer weather and lots of fun outdoor activities! With Spring comes the return of many of our seasonal residents and vacationing families we cant wait to see everybody!

April 9 & 10: Destination Highlands Murder A Dinner Theatre Fund Raiser at the Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts Center in Highlands at 6:30 p.m. Come Wine, Dine and Solve the Crime with the Highlands Cashiers Players. Fressers Eatery at Helens Barn will cater the event. Proceeds will help Highlands Cashiers Players stage performances throughout the year. April 9-11: The Renewal Experience with Patrice Dickey Hosted by The Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands. Join the Author and Guide to the Life You Love as she takes women on a journey of self discovery and personal development. April 10 May 10: Desert Sojourn Exhibition at Summit One Gallery in Highlands. Summit One Gallerys 2010 Exhibition Season starts early this year with an exhibition by Brian Sullivan. Brian was an art major at the University of Georgia before going to seminary. He is currently the priest at The Episcopal Church of Incarnation here in Highlands. The exhibition chronicles Brians travels to the Middle East Egypt, Palestine, and Israel and will open Saturday, April 10th, with a reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and continues through May 10th. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this exhibition will be donated to Kids 4 Peace.

April 16-18: Wine Weekend The Inn at Half Mile Farm in Highlands. The Inn has partnered with The Highlands Wine and Cheese Shop to celebrate spring in Highlands and the delectable wines of Napa Valley. Friday evening -a special Napa Valley wine flight at The Highlands Wine and Cheese Shop. Unique opportunity to add to your wine collection (or start one) while also pleasing your palate with fine wines, artisan cheeses and specialty food. Saturday, The Inns Chef Jason will present an elegant five course dinner served in the dining room. Each course will be accompanied by perfectly paired wines presented by sommelier Scott Roddy of The Highlands Wine and Cheese Shop. The Inns famous breakfast is included each morning of your stay and wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served every evening. This special event is limited to twelve couples. April 17: 6th Annual Celebrate Earth Day in the Mountains 12 p.m. Sponsored by The Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, Highlands Prominent Committee, Jackson Macon Conservation Alliance & the Upper Cullasaja Watershed Association. This special day will be hosted at the Ball Field on Hwy 64 in Highlands. Everyone is welcome to this free public event, which will feature live music, educational workshops, interactive demonstrations, and food. There will be games and crafts for both the young and the young at heart. Part two: Digital Camera Safari: Zooming In On Natures Details (Sunday April 25) Dr. John Pickering and Nancy Lowe will teach macro photography of insects, plants and other interesting details of natural history. Moore is a graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design, has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and was selected as the official and exclusive sports painter for the Winter & Summer Olympics, as well as the PGA Masters.
