Should you decide to fly to see us, there are several airports within a few hours of the Cashiers-Highlands region of western North Carolina, two major and one regional:
- Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in Greenville, SC
- Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, GA
- Asheville Regional Airport in Asheville, NC
Local knowledge can be very helpful when driving through unfamiliar areas, especially since neither maps nor GPS navigation can tell you that a particular road is difficult to drive, or which route has the best scenery or smoothest highways.
If you need transportation to or from the airport, see our list of Cashiers-Highlands area transportation companies.

Greenville-Spartanburg Airport
Allegiant Air now offers nonstop flights to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport from Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa Bay, Florida. Other airlines offering nonstop flights are American Eagle Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta, Northwest, United Express Airlines, and US Airways.
Directions from Atlanta Airport
After leaving the airport, merge onto I-85 North toward I-75 North/Atlanta. Travel approximately 40 miles; move into the left lane to take Exit 113 toward Gainesville. Travel 52.7 miles; exit on the left to US-23 North/US-441 North. Remain on US-23 North/US-441 North/GA-15 North into Clayton and Dillard.
Once you get to Dillard, watch carefully, because just as you are leaving Dillard, there is a right turn for Highway 246 and a sign for Highlands. This intersection has a red light and a gas station. Turn right onto Highway 246, which becomes Highway 106 once you cross the North Carolina state line. Continue on Highway 106 to Highlands.
Once you get to Highlands, make a right turn at the first traffic light onto Highway 64, and a left at the second traffic light onto Highway 64 East. Highway 64 East will bring you right into the heart of Cashiers.
This trip will take approximately 2.5 hours.
From Asheville Regional Airport
There are two different ways to reach Cashiers from the Asheville Airport. Both offer nice scenery; the difference is in time vs. width of highways.
Option One
Although the driving time is considerably longer, take this route if you prefer traveling on a major interstate for two-thirds of the way.
From the airport, merge onto I-26 W/US-74W. Go 8.8 miles to Exit 32B (I-40/US-74) on your left, this will take you towards Canton/Knoxville. Stay on I-40/US-70 for 18.4 miles to Exit 27.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to take Exit 27 towards Maggie Valley-Franklin-Murphy-Atlanta-Clyde-Waynesville. If you miss Exit 27, you will remain on I-40 towards Knoxville, Tennessee and it is quite a distance before there is an exit to turn around.
Exit 27 will put you on US-74 W. Stay on US-74 W for 1.4 miles. Then merge onto US-23/US-74and travel for approximately 22 miles, until you see the hospital and Western Carolina University exit on the right. Take this exit and go to the third red light. At the light, make a left onto Highway 107 South. After you pass Western Carolina University on the left, the road narrows into two lanes. Stay on Highway 107 South until you reach the red light in Cashiers at the Intersection of Highway 107 and US 64 (approximately 25 miles). This is the Cashiers Crossroads.
This route will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Option Two
This route is much quicker, but you will travel most of the distance on a two-lane road (vs. a multi-lane highway in Option One).
From Asheville airport, go south on NC 280 (New Airport Road) toward French Broad Lane. Stay on NC 280; it will become US 64 West. Stay on Highway 64 West until you reach the Crossroads, the intersection of Highway 107 and US 64 in Cashiers.
This route is approximately 53 miles and will take about an hour.
Notes About Airlines
Continental, Delta, Northwest, US Airways and Allegiant Air all fly into the Asheville Regional Airport. Currently, nonstop flights are available to Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, and Newark.
