There is a story behind every shop that hangs its shingle out, but this one is particularly representative of the Blue Ridge Mountain Dream. Opened in 1992, Rusticks quickly became a fan-favorite for locals and seasonal visitors alike. Owners Ann and Rody Sherrill who originated from Lookout Mountain, TN bought a second home in the resort town of Highlands, North Carolina. Ann took great joy in decorating their new home and received rave reviews from visitors also seeking a rustic yet sophisticated look. Husband Rody a recently retired corporate executive wished to begin a joint business venture with his wife, and the idea of offering unique furniture, accessories and gifts through a retail shop near their new seasonal home town seemed intriguing. Originally located in a small storefront in Chestnut Square in Cashiers, Rusticks opened to such acclaim that they faced two expansions before moving to their own spectacular free-standing Adirondack style building at Canoe Point on Cashiers Lake. Even the new site had to be expanded to include a second floor showroom in 2006. This year marks Rusticks 19th year in business. The Sherrills continue to own and operate the shop with the assistance of their store manager of 11 years, Laura Jane Stanton.
Rusticks is a much loved stop along the way for both visitors to the Highlands-Cashier Plateau and natives, and has been an active participant in the popular Cashiers Designer Showhouse since 1999. The shop has been featured in the pages of Veranda Magazine, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine, WNC Magazine and Second Home Magazine. Opened seasonally only, Rusticks 2010 season runs through November 27. The doors are open Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Sundays). Rusticks is located just south of the Cashiers Crossroads off of Highway 107 South at 32 Canoe Point.
