As the last summer breezes blow over the peaks and valleys of the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau, visitors and villagers alike will revel in these final precious weeks of one of the areas busiest and most beautiful seasons. With Mother Natures splendor at center stage, theres always an abundance of cultural and fun activities in the unique towns and villages of the mountains of Western North Carolina. The team at Silver Creek Real Estate Group has compiled a list of events taking place in our little corner of the world this August. August (ongoing): Live Piano Music at On The Verandah in Highlands showcasing Chad Reed and his distinctive flair for tickling the ivories to your classical, standards, jazz and blues favorites as he returns for his 8th season at On The Verandah. August 7: Final Performance in the Relay for Life Mountain Music Concert Series -Sponsored by the Just for You Relay For Life Team to benefit the American Cancer Society, the Mountain Music concert series features music and dance mountain style! Come enjoy the entertainment, along with modern western square dancing, clogging, raffles and more. Dancing begins at 6:45 PM and the bands perform from 7:30 until 9:00 PM, in the old gym at Highlands School. Admission is free.

August 15: Bark for Life at Highlands Recreational Park fun-filled day for dogs and their owners that includes demonstrations and games to benefit the American Cancer Society.     Silver Creek Real Estate Group is a proud supporter of Cashiers Designer Showhouse 2009, sponsored by the dedicated folks at The Cashiers Historical Society (CHS) and the media sponsor, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine. This years Showhouse represents the twelfth year for this very special event an annual fundraiser to benefit CHS and will be hosted at Cashiers historic Nancy Hanks House. Nancy Hanks (1927-1983) a prominent summertime Cashiers resident and former president of the American Council for the Arts is perhaps best known for spearheading the federal governments involvement in the arts. The Designer Showhouse will feature 28 rooms of stunning interior design through the hard work and artistic talent of both local designers and top Atlanta-based design firms. Showhouse Shops and on-site Merchants Green Market are sure to please visitors who wish to shop to their hearts content. The Showhouse will be open to visitors from Saturday, August 22 through Sunday, September 6 during the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. General admission is $25, and tickets are available at the door or through The Cashiers Historical Society. A Customer Appreciation Day will be held on Wednesday, September 2 and admission will be just $15 all day! The Nancy Hanks House is located at 1903 Highway 107 approximately two miles south of the Crossroads in Cashiers, GA.

    Other events surrounding the 2009 Designer Showhouse support an eco-friendly theme Green: Leaving a Legacy. The event Preview Patrons Party A Green Affair will be hosted the evening of August 21, with entertainment provided by ANITA and catering by Lee Epting of Athens, Georgia. Opening day August 22 the Church of the Good Shepherd will be the site of Farm Fresh Foods: From Garden to Table from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This special event features guest speaker Chef Anne Quatrano of Bacchanalia Restaurant in Atlanta, and limited seats are available at $75. On Wednesday, August 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Church of the Good Shepherd will play host to two green-friendly lectures: Always in Style: Everyday Green Living presented by Laura Turner Seydel and Wellness Within Your Walls : Eco Friendly and Healthy Interiors by Jillian Pritchard Cooke. Tickets to this event are also $75. The Church of the Good Shepherd is located at 1448 Hwy 107 South in Cashiers.

    Jochen Lucke owner and senior broker of Silver Creek Real Estate Group will be representing the Silver Creek team and their support of green living as he takes part in Putting for the Green on Sunday, August 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This fun community event will be hosted by the Chattooga Putting Club at The Nancy Hanks House. Tickets are $75 for participants, and $50 for spectators and fans.
